Lesson plan using Design Thinking Model

Subject:Science

Grade:4

Lesson: Development stages of plants.

Objective of the lesson: Students will see live development of plants(mix flowers and vegetables)

Materials needed:Plants,seeds,gardening tools.(duration  1 week+   6 months)

Empathize

 

Tell them about stages of plants by showing photos and videos.

Visit school premises and draw " My dream school garden".

Define

 

Show different  gardens in  nearby areas, nursery and farmhouse

Differentiate  herb,shrub,trees climber  creeper flowering and non flowering plants etc while observing and ask the name of plants

Ideate

 

Group division for making dream garden in school.

Talk about seasonal plants

Making manure.

A     Cleaning and decorating trimming

B   Collection of  plants ,seeds and gardening tools from house and neighbor

 C Planting ,watering ,(collect rain water)

 

Prototype

 

Tell story (plastic ko phool) and sing   plant  songs. Decorate classroom by flowers, trees and grass to make class lively

 

They will observe development stages of plant and measure  height of the plants  no of, branches and leaves weekly. Present in class.

Test

 

Compare dream  garden and real garden and reward the best picture and performance of  project work.

Plant new seeds and plants according to season. Maintain garden monthly. Do worksheet

  The 5Es are an instructional model encompassing the phases Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate, steps which educators have traditionally taught students to move through in phases. First, instructors open a lesson with an activity or question meant to  engage  students, snag their interest, and offer the opportunity for them to share what they already know on the subject. This phase might include helping them make connections between their preexisting knowledge base and the new ideas that will come down the pipeline in the lesson or unit. Many educators use traditional KWL charts, in which students list what they already know and what they want to learn during this step. At the end of the lesson, students go back to this chart to list what they learned. After engage comes  explore , in which students carry out hands-on activities.
